Chapter Thirty-Eight

Sometimes Louise would throw the ball a little too hard and Hercules the Lesser would either have to brace himself or chase the ball. On this rare warm Monday at the end of November he decided that he would catch everything Louise threw in his little patch of grass in front of General John G. Pershing Elementary School even if it hurt his hands.

For her part Louise was known to run toward the ball because she didn’t want to hurt his feelings by standing too close and she wasn’t to good at fielding slow rolling grounders these days. The distance between the two made it difficult for her to ease up he throw while encouraging him to throw hard. It seemed as if he was afraid he would bruise the ballHerc38
